airtight air vent

Right, so the extractor fan for the downstairs loo will actually be mounted on a wall near the kitchen ceiling (then out of the kitchen ceiling with a mushroom vent). Fan is a switched 350m^3/hr or 125m^3/ hr affair that will be throttled back with a speed controller most of the time. Kitchen will have a cooker hood in it. But, I had a bright idea. Why not allow the loo extractor to extract from just below the ceiling kitchen if it was desired (ceiling is high at that point and their are no openable roof vents), short circuiting the duct from the toilet ? So, I need some time of flap / grill in the kitchen that will be totally airtight but can be opened if extraction from the kitchen is desired. Obviously if the vent was left open and the fan off, smells could drift through from the loo to the kitchen. I can imagine a soil pipe access port that could be unscrewed, but any ideas for something a bit more elegant ? Simon.
