When they are all made in China, I shop primarily on features and price, not on brand reputation. This I apply to power tools, I still buy Craftsman hand tools.

The furniture whether relates to home or shop should be repaired from time to time. The best method is to repair all joints and change the wood which is broken.
On a Shop Smith, Then IIRC a Delta contractors saw and eventually a Unisaw. That would be the way to do it so you don't have that hollow spot.
I couldn't locate comparable specs for Shop Fox or Powermatic. Bill
