setup shop

So could I ask the group with all your knowledge and great sage power if you went back in time and were going to redo your shop and/or for serious DIY's and had $5000 to $7,000 to set up a workshop what would you get? What is over kill e.g. 6' joiner vs. 8" joiner.

Shop Heating

This lasts all night until around 8 when I open shop. I give it a little shaking and begin the routine once again. Nothing like the feeling of that nice hot stove coming in from the 0 degree morning to begin work.

Shop Teachers

Well, I had a lot of rasp work to do as a result and our shop did not have proper rasps, but things that were more like metal files. I got marked down for taking so long to get the final shape on the half-hull model.

Shop heater

Got heat in the shop today. Hallelujah! A 45000 BTU (47,466,000 joules for you non-Brits) Reznor unit. Keeps it easily at 50-60 degF with an outside temp of 10-20. Now I don't need the electric unit on the bench to keep the glue and my fingers from freezing. Yeehaw. mahalo, jo4hn

Shop flooring

Ok, I'm expecting that the painter will be vacating my new shop in a week. Question, I've been thinking of putting epoxy paint on the floor (new slab), but, a friend suggested a cheap oak floor. The wood floor would have to be nailed onto a substrate (1/2" ply?) on sleepers (PT?)

shop cabinet

I'm nearing completion on a rolling shop cabinet that will provide storage and also keep my planer off the ground. It's built in basically the same fashion that a kitchen cabinet would be built to give me some practice with face frame cabinetry.

New shop

Building new shop 30x40 with concrete floor. I want to put several electrical recepticles in the floor that are flush with the concrete for my table saw and other tools. Does anyone have experience with this - pro or con. I hate having cords hanging or lying around. TIA, Dan

New Shop!

A covered patio that'll morph into a shop in the future. The wife and I have been working in the yard cleaning and moving stuff/junk/lumber around to layout the foundation. While we were at it, we picked up a bunch of 1/2 barrels (Very nice QSWO, I think) for planters along the fence line.
