What is privately run are the "waste transfer sites", aka dumps, where you take your rubbish. How cheap - it's £30 per wheelie bin here. agreed, but they take up space.

North Yorkshire green bins and blue box recycling are supplied free. NYCC also run excellent recycling and waste sites with everything from hardcore, old fluoro tubes to double bagged asbestos waste accepted. I use my green bin for making leaf mould every year.

Honestly, there aren't a lot of sites I frequent of this type. I absolutely hat the big catalogue sites. After Google, Wikipedia and various government agencies, all of which I visit daily, there is a list of manufacturer's and associations that I might only visit ...
