HDD died - recovery ?

but that was Apple using Mac he's disk is from a PC so I doubt Apple would be interested. Not sure why you couldn't use a Mac to drag most of the user files off to another drive.

P'raps the sort of people who make choices within the BBC are more inclined to be Apple minded. If they, and all the people around, them use apple devices it would seem like to obvious thing to do.

AIUI Apple bought the rights to the NeXT cube's Mach OS (maybe Apple chose it for the name? :-) http://www.levenez.com/unix/history.html seems to confirm that this is its main lineage, with some cross fertilisation between Mach and FreeBSD
