Re: Beginner's Table Saw?

I went as far as putting an old computer, networked to my DSL line, right in the basement shop. I can Google right from the shop! Having access to books, the web and this group has greatly improved my work, and even saved a few mistakes.

How long before withdrawal symptoms set in for YOU?

Depends on what I am doing ... if I am finishing, I have to make myself go out to the shop. If I am measuring, sawing, cutting, chiseling, and generally snortin' sawdust, I have to make myself come back into the house.

What to make first?

I learned a lot when I first started working wood by doing shop projects. It outfitted my shop with the things I'd need to further myself and any mistakes were confined to the shop. Made a very simple router table, then graduated to a traditional workbench.

Need piece of steel for project; source?

Boiler plate is what I got at my local boiler repair shop. Another place real cheap I have gotten steel is my local metal scrap dealer. Prices can vary from 3$ to 40$ depending on where you shop.
