Patina on brass?

One other idea is to visit or call a stained-glass shop (one that sells supplies for making your own pieces) - they sell solutions for patina-ing metals, although I don't know if they would have one specifically to make the brass brown.

Constant shop vac filter clog

How are you using the paper bag in a shop vac? I'm still using the original paper filter that came with the vac. I do have a dust collection system for my bigger tools but use the shop vac for smaller hand tools and of course to clean the shop mess.

Project idea: cieling shelf for model train

theres one in a ohio dairy queen, and used to be one in a hobby shop in our local mall, the hobby shop closed..... the hobby shop one went thru the wall and ran across the front of the store FLAWLESS trackage is critical, given service will be awkard at best

Say what??

at a friend's bicycle shop. Some low-end side pull brake calipers were in the order for the service of department store bikes (something that the shop eventually refused to do). The boxes were marked "ront" and "frear." My friend the shop owner and I still chuckle over ...

Dust collector question

No neighbors and the shop is fairly far from the house. It isn't heated or cooled so that I don't think that will be problem. Worst thing I heard was that dust would coat side of shop. Maybe extending duct pipe further from shop would help that. Thanks for your help

Xmas in the shop - kinda OT

snip My cd player in the shop (and my truck) will play .mp3 cd's. I can put around 200 songs on a cd. Right now I have Hawaiian in the truck and swing in the shop. Last week it was old country in the shop. Before that it was classical.

Solvent Weld Joint Re-use

Err, your best bet would be to go and visit a builders merchant who has most of his small stock out on the shop floor, rather than behind a trade counter. Go and have a good browse around the pipe work and fittings.

Small work platform - feet 1.5-2m above groumd

I used to visit Maplin frequently, but, in later years, they never had components in stock (just 1 or 2 of a particular capacitor, a handful of resistors, 1 transistor, etc.), the shop was filled with toys and gadgets and everything had become hugely overpriced.
