I have a significant amt of bare wood after scraping loose paint.
trim around garage door is peeling. I have scraped all loose paint. Should primer be applied before repainting?

Then, you should strip the rest of the paint off and make it look literally brand new and perfect. If you don't, it'll look ratty and be apparent that you did a down and dirty job and didn't sand to feather-out the remaining paint's edges. But yes, anytime you have bare wood it must be primed. Although, I've had very good and lasting results with Primer/Paint combos.
