The only real issues are if erroneously you crank up the heat higher than you want it because it is cold, and it might take longer to get it warm if you have a heat pump or other system designed to heat most of the time to keep the house warm.

I agree, you may not 'count' that loss if the heat escapes to an area that you'd like to keep warm - like a basement living area in winter. However, in the UK electricity is 4 times the cost of gas. It's very rare to find a home heated by electricity here - althought that's starting to change as more people install air source heat pumps
