Tin roof installation -- support issues

Aug 13, 2003 2 Replies

I've built a 12' x 16' shed in the backyard, and I intend to put a tin roof on it. I haven't put up any rafters yet because I don't have a clear idea of the support needed under it.

Can I nail it to simple furring strips laid perpendicular to the rafters? If so, what is the maximum space between the furring strips? I'm in KY, so there's probably never going to be much in the way of a snow load.

Thanks for any advice.

You can use firring strips, but the maximum space is dependent on the particular style of metal roof and local codes. I would suggest you call your local building department or the manufacturer's rep.
