Some time back, I (and others) were accused of participating in some cross-posted threads. As that shouldn't have been possible given my server's configuration (and I couldn't easily find evidence of it), I opted to manually add a filter in my newsreader to automatically discard posts that are crossposted (without caring about the names of the other newsgroups involved --- legitimate or not).
Today, I glanced through the filter log and it appears there are many threads which are perpetuating these cross posted flames.
Is this deliberate on the part of the parties involved (troll feeding)? Or, are they just ignorant of their efforts (or actions that they can take -- like filters -- to prevent it)?
