IMHO, the posters here who say there is nothing wrong with writing a check to someone other than who the contract was made up by appear to me to be contractors or self employed people who practice this with their customers. As long as no one give me charity and I worked hard for my money, I'll protect myself the way I see fit. I don't need a contractor telling me 'don't worry'. That's when I first start worrying.
