How much to reline a chimney?

Nov 02, 2005 1 Replies

Existing 30 ft masonry chimney, through center of house up from basement fireplace to roof. I want to reline it with an insulated stainless steel liner down to a T though the wall just above the fireplace, which will no longer be used.

Guy wants $2500, says it will take 1/2 day max, 4 people. Materials cost him around $500-$700.

Reasonable?

Thanks!

16 man hours for $2000 is $125 per hour for each guy if they don't finish early. $2500 sounds OK until you look at it that way. Get more quotes. Does that include the city inspection fees and how long is the warranty, do they need special equiment? You need to do it right or the insurance company will balk.
