furnace flame rollout???

Feb 11, 2004 3 Replies

hi all, today our gas fired boiler began cycling on & off; went to take a peek between cycles & noticed that the flame on the burners, once they lit were not 'burning' straight up, they did so for a few seconds, then settled back down into the burner box, and the furnace shut off. the furnace has a sticker on it indicating that it has 'flame rollout protection' and i guess this is what is shutting down the system. any ideas on what could be causing this?? it has an automatic damper & i checked it, it was open when the burners tried to light. i wondering if the burner ports or gas inlets into them could be blocked or dirty??? any info appreciated pax, h2

... thanx for the reply, understand that the rollout switch is a safety
