electric hot water heater

Any recommendations on the brand of hot water heater for residential use? I currently have a 52 gal. Rheem that has the date 1980 on it. There's nothing wrong with it (yet), but I figure it's about time. Are there any brand names that are better than others, or some to avoid. Also, should I go for a larger one or stay with one of equal size.

thanks

If it were to develop a huge leak, would it be a major problem? If the only result would be a wet concrete floor, and you could easily sweep the water into a floor drain, I'd keep it until it dies. On the other hand, if it's a finished basement with stuff on the floor that could be damaged or ruined....

As far as size, if you do NOT find that you're running out of hot water during peak demand, like mornings when several people may be showering consecutively, then the size is right for you.

Rheem/Rudd come to mind as you've gotten good service out of the current one, but also: State, AO Smith, Bradford White (did I miss any of the big players?)

I say go larger if you have the space. Electric WH's are very well insulated, like a thermos and don't "lose" stored heat like they used to. I'd rather have

80 or 100 gallons of 130 degree water ready to go at all times than 40 or 50.
