Dimmer noise - Lightolier Multiset

I'm wondering if any of the electrians in this group have experience with Lightolier's Multiset digital dimming system.

I use the system to control the lighting in my kitchen. However, I have recently discovered that the dimmer creates a great deal of noise that basically goes through my entire house A/C system. This noise is only picked up by my son's guitar amp. It's so bad that you can't use the amp when the kitchen lights are on. It doesn't matter what circuit he uses, the noise is there.

Is there any filter that I can add to the kitchen circuit to cancel or absorb the noise?

Thanks,

HK

You could try a low range line filter at the amp. I don't know how well it will do, it may help make peace at home.

It probably wipes out all the AM radios for you and the neighbors as well.

The upscale Lutron dimmers (more than $30, eg. Diva) have RFI suppression that's good enough to spare the neighbors, and might spare the guitar amplifier since it's not an AM radio.

I'd send it back myself, as unacceptable engineering. It's not as if it's a mystery that they'll make noise or how they have to suppress it. They just don't care. Number of complaints = x% and they find they can make a profit at that rate selling junk.

I installed hundreds of dollars worth of Lutron dimmers during my remodel. My problem was not audible noise but interference ( scrolling lines ) on my T.V.s. I called Lutron and they said it could be an inslallation problem. Before spending the money, make sure your dimmers are free of any install problems. Lutron dimmers are expensive and sometime require a complete change of the wallbox due to their larger size.
