Asphalt Driveway Crack Sealers And Dampness ?

Sep 13, 2010 2 Replies

Hello:

Regarding the liquid crack sealer for filling in cracks in asphalt driveways (and also the cold patch product for bigger cracks/holes):

Must the asphalt be "perfectly" dry for these products to adhere and work, or is some light dampness due to recent rain not important ?

Thanks, Bob

Most sealers and crack fillers are aqueous emulsions and can be applied to a damp surface. May not be true of cold patch.

Take note that for sealing cracks in roads they normally wait until it gets cold outside. The blacktop shrinks and the cracks are larger then. Do it too soon and you will still have a void when the temp drops.
