Probably not if you apply for a building permit! A 2x6 isn't enough to span 12 feet. Oh, it'd probably hold just fine, but I think the max span for a 2x6 is 8 feet something... Tom

I am planning a pergola using (6) 4x4 posts, spaced 10 feet apart, with 2x8 double beams.
The 2x6s will be spanning the 12 foot distance between the beams, with 2x2 slats on top of these every 2 feet.
Will the 2x6s be ok across the 12 foot span? is too much sag expected?
They will have 1 foot overhang on each end, so 2x6x14.
Thanks,
Paul

I don't exactly know if that thing works but i have found some sample Garden Pergola and have the sizes Small Pergolas (under 100 square foot roof) and Large Pergolas (over 100 square foot roof). The small pergolas have 3 3/4" x 3
3/4" posts and 1 3/4" x 3 3/4" roof support timbers (lintels) and rafters. The large pergolas have 5 1/2" x 5 1/2" posts and 1 7/8" x 1 7/8" lintels and rafters.Maybe you can create one following the sizes mentioned above.
