When the hurricane of 1900 wiped out Galveston Island, Clara Barton, Red Cross came down from the east coast and saw the devastation of an agrarian economy, said they needed a "cash crop" and they planted strawberries. That why Pasadena, TX is "Strawberry Capital of the World". Even amid the refineries. A little trivia for ya.
