arborvitae rootball

Sep 04, 2010 1 Replies

i recently planted a 6 foot emerald green arborvitae and realized that i left the burlap wrap on the rootbal. there were so many new roots that i didnt see the burlap until i noticed it on a second emerald green that i planted...is leaving the burlap on a bad thing? also, should i wrap the foliage in burlap this winter since they are still settling in? what about adding cow manure...? thanks, cj in s.e. michigan

Dig down enough to make sure there isn't anything tied around the trunk, no cord/no wire, the burlap will decay. Also be certain it's real burlap, many nurseries are now moving towards synthetic/plastic burlap
