Garage .... Conversion

Feb 16, 2008 1 Replies

Hi

Warm morning/Dayroom required !!

I live in semi, with 10m drive, and all houses in area have garages...1m from side back door ----- joined, and both comprising of a flat roof !

The front of the house is SOUTH facing( and makes the garage an idea place for a sunny dayroom). .....remove door and put in window

My question is: Can I remove the flat felt roof and put a conservatory roof on the garage ?

I was thinking of a polycarb, edwardian style. This would put little strain on the single brick walls ? then fix up inside of garage as a sunroom/dayroom

Any comments would be helpfull !

Any web address of details in garge convertion would be great ... planning to DIY job myself

Thanks R

Each to his own but a brick-built room, that was originally designed to be used as a garage, with a conservatory roof added to replace the original flat roof, could look a bit strange, especially when compared with your neighbours' properties. If that doesn't bother you, and you don't think that your warm morning/dayroom conversion will be detrimental to the value and/or appeal of your house should you come to sell, then the next step is to investigate whether building regulations and planning permission are relevant.
