Storm windows for Pella Proline ?

Sep 26, 2006 8 Replies

What are some brands of storm windows that fit Pella Proline 450 series windows? Ours are Proline's standard size, 33" x 65" I think.

I can't find on Pella's website where they offer any storm windows. I want them as much for added security as much as for add'l weather protection.

Ideally, I'd like top find a storm window using Solutia's KeepSafe shatter resistant security glass, that would fit but that seems a tall bill to fill.

Well, I think that the whole idea of having a modern, air-tight, multi-pane window is that you don't need to add a storm window. I have never seen a storm window that would add significantly to the U factor of a decent window.

Now, security is another issue.

Security is a fairly large part of my desire for the storm windows, actually. Anything that a burglar sees that he interprets as a slow down gaining entry may make him move on to the next house and leave yours alone.

I have three Larson Secure Elegance storm doors on the house that feature the Solutia KeepSafe security glass. It is supposed to be able to withstand a brick hit, a direct crowbar strike, etc and while it will crack and break the laminate keeps it from coming apart and so it remains as a barrier to entry. The doors are installed with one way screws every other screw, I hope I never have to try to remove the door-- I would need to drill each one way screw out...

Cute link, but having been in law enforcement a number of years I'll err on the side of a secure home, thank you.
