I would imagine its a ladder tray for putting paint cans on whilst painting outside?

Do you run your brush against it to take off the excess paint, rather than using the edge of the tin?

I think it replaces a paint roller tray by sitting inside a paint "bucket" (small rollers or large buckets!) and hooking onto the rim. The roller would then be run across it to remove the excess paint. Must be for commercial use only?

You hang it in a paint bucket and use it to wipe excess paint off the brush. It makes sure that the drips stay in the bucket and don't dribble down the outside. I just put a bent bit from a wire coat hanger across the top and wipe the brush on that.

It certainly is Peter.

I bought a 'Decorating Set' in Aldi the other day for about £4 because the various contents were worth a lot more. Includede was a plastic version and instructions for precisely what you suggested.
