Can someone recommend a coloured dye (and supply source) that can be dissolved in water for tracing the source of a water leak.

It's just that we have several underground drains that run close t

Thanks

in water for tracing the source of a water leak.

Standard thing for this is to use fluorescein dye sodium salt (aka Uranine) which is detectable by uv light at incredibly low trace levels in water and is relatively harmless.

olved in water for tracing the source of a water leak.

Any builders merchant. It is not the usual way of tracing underground water leaks. The normal way is with a "listening stick" or the electronic equivalent.

'Tis for drains.

Listening sticks work for leaks in supply pipes to trace the "singing". Aren't the electronic thingies just pipe/cable tracers, they don't indicate leaks, though I think you can get electronic sniffers for gas.

You can get electronic listening devices too.

Meh. Still don't think a listening device would be much use when looking for a leak in a drain.
