Interesting. I imagine mould might be a problem though, at least initially. Maybe a porridge/lime mortar would behave similarly.

WTF else did they have to try and stick stuff with? By happy coincidence it worked long enough to get analysed by "experts".
Reminds of when people observe animals and proclaim "look how it's adapted to it's environment" ....
