Planning permission needed?

Hi Group,

Do I need planning permission to internally change my house from 2 bedrooms to 3 bedrooms? This would include adding an extra window to the front of the house.

Also, do I need to notify anyone that I have done this? Local council or land registry or anything?

Thanks,

Jay

AIUI:

Planning permission for internal changes to room count not required. PP is required for an additional window

Building control need design details of both changes.

Probably not. The window might fall under planning if in a conservation area.

You need to get the BCO involved before you even take up a hammer.

The window will certainly need to be 'to spec' (insulation, fire access and ventilation) and you will get angst if you ever sell and the work hasn't been 'signed off'.

Although this might not be your situation, when we thought about converting our garage into another room, some council bod said "That's ok. All you need to do is provide another off-road parking space". Round 'ere, a 4-bed house needs 3 off-road spaces (one being a garage).

Not normally, according to at least one local authority's advice I found with a quick Google. New roof dormers facing a road are a different matter. It can also depend on the distance from the road.
