orientation of pump

I just got my Grundfos bosster pump, and on the instructions is says the pump body must be horizontal, for the sake of the bearings.

Also, it says it must not be run inverted, (with the connector underneath) but doesn't say why.

Naturally, this is the only sensible way to mount it, in a downflowing pipe in the corner.

As this first stage is a bit of a test, I thought I'd ask if I could get away with ignoring this, as the pipework will be upgraded as soon as I'm sure this will work.

It may be because of water possibly getting in the electrics, which I could ignore if I'm careful, for now, or will it stop the flow switch working? Anyone know, please?

Incidentally, the Grundfos cirulating pump, which has been there since

1995, is mounted with the pump axis vertical and is still going quiet and strong! I'd like to have seen it's mounting instructions but it predates me.

Incidentally I ordered the pump from bhl

and am impressed so far - prices seem good, I phoned as I'm a virgin at this, and they (Lee) was very helpful, they phoned back, the pump arrived right on time (but delivered by Plumbcenter Chelmsford - go figure).

Their website is not complete, I thought they did not do HW cylinders suitable for me, but they do, so might be worth contacting for quotes.

underneath)

So that in the event of a water leak the electrics are not soaked.

Mike, If it is anything like my stuart pump, the float switch needs gravity to turn off and so the outlet must point up vertically.

I was afraid that might be it, but horizontal alignments are ok both left and right.

(the helpful manual is ful of pictures of what's ok and whats not, but no explanations as to why, except for the bearings issue).

I think I'll have to give it a try temporarily - it's only to see if it works and doesn't pump out me tank or collapse the street main

That is true but all the houses of the same type of mine on this estate have their pumps mounted with the electrics underneath by the developer.... I haven't heard of a problem in 25 years...

This pre-supposes that any water leak will come from the pump, itself! My pump once got written off because water leaked onto the electrics from the

3-port valve, mounted directly above it!
