Honeywell Smartfit Controllers

Hello everyone....

I've got a Honeywell Smartfit 7 Day Controller fitted to my heating system. This evening it started giving an "F2" fault message. I have no experience of these controllers or of the system in general. I'm a maintenance technician by trade, so feel that a fix will be within my abilities if someone can point me in the right direction. I've had a fairly extensive search round the net, but have not turned up anything that gives me any help as to what the "F" code means.

If I do a reset of the controller, it will appear to revert back to normal operation, but selecting either the heating or water functions does not make the "flame" icon go on - as in the boiler is not firing up. I can't hear the valves operating as I normally would and the heating is certainly NOT coming on.

If someone could give me a hint before I freeze to death I would be eternally grateful!!

Many thanks

Bassman.

I am unable to get to this site, maybe you can do better:

HTML version of that site is almost unreadable but perhaps this is a clue:

------------------------------------------------------------- In the event of a problem, a fault code will be displayed on the Room Unit display. Before removing Base Unit cover, isolate mains.

F2 CH Valve open circuit

a) Check Valve connections at Base Unit and Valve b) Check Valve cable for open circuit c) Change Actuator

for me:

F2 CH Valve Open Circuit

a) Check valve connections at base unit and valve b) Check Valve cable for open circuit c) change actuator

The CH valve connection is the middle one on the base unit.

Thanks very much guys,

I managed to find the installation details with the fault codes, while looking for some other information in the paperwork the previous owner had left me.

I ended up taking apart the actuator valve, which was very clean inside and the movement was totally free. I checked the motor and switch mechanism with a meter - all appeared to be in order, so I reassembled the actuator and refitted it. I had a quick look at the base unit and could see no problems other than one of the cables was draped over the transformer. Not being sure how hot this was likely to get I removed the wires from their terminals, rerouted the cable and reattached the wires. I fired up the system once more and it burst into life happy as larry!

I can only summise that the reseat on the wires was the thing that did the trick, as it happened this was the cable that went downstairs to the room unit - so could possibly have been corrupting data. Don't know

- don't care - it's all up and running!!

Thank you for your help.
