gas cooker won't stay alight

Hi All,

first time of posting - and hoping

courtesy of the electric company i had a power cut yesterday - but there must have been a nice power spike as well! it blew a usb hub on a computer and something to do with ignition on my gas cooker!

the clock on the cooker is blown due to this but also the oven ignition circuit (automatic ignition). The cooker hob still works so i know the gas supply is ok. If i light the oven manually it stays alight for a minute or so, and then goes out!

any ideas and suggestions?, the cooker is about 15 years old but was working fine, so is it time to replace it, or is it a cheap fix by replacing some eletrical/electronic component in the cooker.

the cooker is a "new world plan 6"

I think this is what you're after:

MO402 Cooker Module / pcb CA5100 NEW WORLD "Plan 6" £39.00

But can't be sure until you find the part in the cooker and get the model and part numbers from it. Remember to unplug the cooker from the gas and electric before you start to dismantle it. You can't really miss the ignition board. it should be either in the side wall near the bottom of the cooker, or tucked away in behind the floor of the oven compartment.

might also be able to send you a repaired one if you send them your broken one.

Who will say that as part of their T&Cs for provision of supply they cannot guarantee continuity of said supply. Some devices are prone to failure when first powered up, even if using a switch on the socket etc. Pace satellite systems were renowned for failing like this.

You could always find out if the supply failure was caused by cable damage, in which case you may have some way of claiming against the guys who hit it, but in all likelihood, the easiest and quickest way of resolving it will probably be to claim on your house insurance.
