dust falling from gaps in ceiling

Hi, my sister in law lives in an old school and the dust from the loft seeps into the house. She tried to clean the loft, but was driven back by the vast volumes of dust. She is determined that she i now going to seal the gaps with microporse tape. The ceiling has a wooden v-lining type cladding, and about 12 foot high. other than cleaning, any other suggestions to stop the dust?

Fit a proper plasterboard ceiling.

Hire industrial vacuuming equipment to clear the loft space.

In the longer term, have a proper breathable roof felt fitted when the tiles/slates require replacement.

Also, why is the dirt so bad?

Are there birds or vermin in the loft?

Is there loft insulation?

The building is 100 years old, recently converted, the new insulation went on top of at least an inch of dust, no vermin, birds.

Paint the ceiling in the hope that paint will seal the gaps where the dust comes through?

(Somebody else posted their experience of cleaning out a similar loft space a couple of months ago here IIRC.)

why is the dirt so bad? Because unless dirt is sealed off it turns into dust and makes it's way into your house. Leading you to clean non stop like a maniac. No good for your health either. Old houses had shit building materials
