Cable to remote consumer unit

No.

Most suppliers will get upset though if the tails are longer than a couple of metres or so. The normal arrangement is to fit an appropriately rated switch-fuse next to the meter, and then to run the supply from that to the distant consumer unit.

Such installations are often wired in appropriately sized T&E cable. SWA (armoured) cable is often used for convenience or where there is a risk of mechanical damage.

Might also be worth adding that if you use T&E, then the CPC in the cable will normally not be large enough to carry the earth to the new CU position - hence another reason why three core SWA can make for a neater setup.
