Blastsed pushfit

I put the sink back in the kitchen today. I had cut the pipes with a view to dropping the sink into the new worktop and reattaching with pushfit.

The bastard at the plumbing merchant had sold me a pushfit straight which only had the collar containing the teeth in one end and dammit I didn't notice.

Put the water back on and #thunk, me with my head under the sink checking for leaks saturated under mains pressure.

This was at 7.45 so ended up dripping wet in B&Q looking like a right ****.

Oh the joys of DIY.

That sounds familiar. I bought some push-fit end stops from Screwfix that leaked constantly if I cut the pipe with a hacksaw but worked perfectly when a proper pipe cutter was used. Unfortunately the sink I was changing was just above a downstairs cupboard with the electric meter and fuse box in it. After the first attempt I turned the water on and spent ages mopping up the water in the cupboard. A tiny bit of water seems to go a very long way. I like the push fit connectors but they look messy compared to a proper soldered pipe joint. I've had a few plumbing disasters so now get someone in.

Not read the instructions then?

That sounds familiar. Do a search on this group and hacksaw. ;-)

It is possible to cut the pipe without having the correct tool if you know what you're doing, but with the cutters being so cheap why bother?

This issue has been raised before. In the interests of science I have done some experiments. Not suceeded yet in displacing the o-ring from a push-fit end-stop with a hacksawed pipe. Which particular push-fit end stop are you using? What you report is not so much poor plumbing as poor hacksawing.

He should try a file at the end of the pipe. The pipe has to be cut square and burr free - plastic or copper.

Have you tried therapy?

Given your undoubted experience of this could you recommend anyone?

Perhaps not such a good idea since the therapy obviously didn't work.

What treatment did the specialist give you for this problem about not being able to find new things to write?
