Its not like when I attended an interview at IC and the first thing they said to the six of us was "well you have been accepted so lets go and have a look around."

Things were different then as most people didn't have an email address.

I was asked in a job interview if I had an email address.

I pointed out it was on the CV.

In quite small type, in X.400 format.

Pretty well what I got when I went for an interview there for a Master's.

Then I turned them down.

"Nightjar " > on Monday?" should be?

Did you sign the form or tell them to go forth and multiply?

Odd that you do not seem to have answered your own question when you obviously know the answer. (?)

And the correct reply when asked "What time can you attend for interview

The answer is of course: Your convenience. HTH

It seems rather a silly question wjhy can;t they put the times when they want the interviewee or whatever his called to turn up.

Whats wrong with turning up at 10pm for an interview. ?

Nothing in principle, but if the firm's hours of work are 9 -5, its a bit impractical.

a couple of yearsa go, my Parish Council was advertising for a new clerk and we gave a closing date. At 8pm on that evening , we went through the applicants and drew up a short list. At just after 11pm I received another application. We hadn't put a time in our advert so we added the applicant to the short list. Just as wee; she got the job.

Not everyone works those times, but if those are the times you already wor k it also means taking time off from yuor present job to go to teh intervie w and yuo might not want your present employer knowing this.

Same with an ex flat mate, she worked in a night club between 10pm and 8am. There's no way she would have turned up for an interview at 9am. I'd hope t hat those doing interviews have a bit of sense when it came to such things. New job here for about £31-35k a year Pro-rata only 14 hours a week not sure who they expect to apply for this especailly as it's internal only. They probbaly have someone in mind and have targeted them.

Having sat on a few interview boards in my time, it's unlikely the first candidate would be scheduled for interview at the time the firm or whatever starts work.

Whenever I interview I specify a time but am willing to re-arrange depending on how the candidate approaches me. I would never ask a candidate, particularly for a junior position such as most apprentices, what time they suggest.

They were phoned out of the blue and asked to come in at short notice. They were not asked to suggest a time but asked what time they could attend:-)

When one of them said after 12 because he does not like getting up in a morning it saved the trouble of interviewing him.

The correct answer IMHO is for the wannabe apprentice to say "what time would you like?" or something like "It will have to before 3pm as I have a meeting with my parole officer/have driving lesson/dental appointment on Monday at 3pm".

Not "after 12 as I don't like getting up in a morning".

on the assumption IC = Imperial College. WHY?

do you get many applicants with parole officers?

Because, compared to the competition, the course was too simplistic.

It is not necessarily the best place under all conditions. eg if you wanted to do hardware, you could do better than IC's CompSci dept as they are currently very very academic and software biased.

If you wanted to do something with a strong IT security angle, RHUL may be a better bet. And so on...

OTOH if you want to do pure CompSci then it's IC or Cambridge pretty much :)

The problem I had was that they started from a very low base, and I wouldn't have learned much.
