That is what confuses people. It was only Cat 1, but it was 1000 miles wide and moved slowly so it pushed a lot of water into bays, inlets and beaches. It also hit during full moon and high tide. It also had the lowest barometer readings ever recorded.
Most hurricanes hit a narrow path and fizzle within a few miles of hitting land.
Thanks. It's amazing that the satellite is able to pick up the state borders, even at night.
