TT or PME ?

My brother has an intermitttent faullt on his ring circuit, with the mcb tripping, its an old board with mcbs and an ELCB. His supply is from a pole in the garden , TT system i thought with earth leakage protection, but he has had a spark round ( tripped twice today ) who reckons its a PME system. All i have seeen at the cu is the incomers and a 10 or 16mm earth cable cable tied to these ( which may be earth bonding ) but would the supply company use oh cables for a pme system, and god knows who you phone up now for info.

Yup, PME can be available on o/h systems. A telephone call to the leccy company should get you (or him) to the records section (eventually - good luck!) where they should be able to confirm whether PME is available on the system that supplies him. That doesn't in itself mean his property is PME, but if the sparks reckons it is, then there's a pretty good chance that's the case.

Power to the village where I live in County Durham is supplied by overhead cables and is PME. The local electricity company is called NPower (Northern Electricity) but the people who do all the line work is NEDL (Northern Electricity Distribution Limited). Best ring your local electricity company and ask if you can have the name and address of the people who do the line work.
