Now I know that you hate cats, but you will really hate this one if it decides to sit next to you.

Actually DUST smells. Dust is bits of skin and hair and general body detritus, and it decays.

Vacuuming and washing with sugar soap eventually fixes it, but its almost impossible to get - e.g. doggy sweat - out of any fabrics. Takes several washes which is NOT practicable with carpets.

Strange that our Henry vacuum cleaner still smells of a dog that died ten years ago (no droll remarks please :-)). Surely by now his detritus decay should have finished. What exactly is it I'm smelling? The obvious bits have been washed to death, so I can only assume it's around the motor somewhere.

I have to enter rented accommodation. Some flats are filthy beyond belief and it is sometimes difficult to accept that a person is actually living there. I know of one instance where a fire alarm company refused to enter the premises on health grounds. These are young people. When I was young I rented flats or shacked up with loads of different girlfriends. My flat was spotless.

Even your dog would probably succumb to the charms of the typical cat.

Although it would make an ideal present for the MiL.

Soil vent pipe too low or near a new vent/window

Sabotage by previous tenant eg wet cloth stuffed in cavities. (I found a dish cloth stuffed down the sink waste pipe in one place i lived. The previous tenant had been evicted.)

Mould in the joists. (Look for pipes leaking or tiles missing.)
