First observations:
The heat pump assembly has a short length of heavy duty, convoluted, plastic pipe feeding water to the heat exchanger, during the recent frost this pipe ruptured and ultimately emptied the system of water.
I don't know if this is a sacrificial section of pipe, but it may have worked.
Further investigations after pipe replacement and refilling system with water.
