RE: CCleaner Warning

From a fellow blogger:

CCleaner has had a few issues over the years since Avast acquired the popular system cleaning program from Piriform back in 2017.

CCleaner 5.91 uninstalled most of my software when I removed CCleaner from Programs and Features in control panel. When uninstalling I saw in the progress bar that some MSI, Steam and Origin files were being removed and after it completed I saw that Adobe reader, Afterburner, Aida64, Steam, Origin, Discord, HDsentinel etc were corrupted (not uninstalled completely). I had to spend 2 more hours to reinstall these and scan my PC fully for any malware.

Hmm. Thanks for the warning. I am now 3 days off the end of my trial. The only strange occurrence has been 2 failed Adobe upgrades.

I've used CCleaner professional for several years, now on version

91.9537. I usually run it once a month before doing a disc clone backup, to clear out junk and cut down on wasted space. Never had a problem with it that I know of, although that caveat may not say much!

I have experienced no problems either (except clearing of some cookies but this can be overcome by moving them to cookies to keep), but thanks for the warning.

Link please.

I've used Ccleaner since just after it was launched in about 2004 & was called Crap Cleaner.

I've installed it on nearly every PC & laptop that has passed through my hands with basic instructions for its use. It is currently installed on my Windows 8.1, Windows 10 & Windows 11 operating systems.

The only problem it's ever caused is when I forgot to tell one user to remove the tick from 'Saved Passwords' & she had to go the forgotten password route on several log ins.

Discounting the registry cleaner & smart cleaning, Ccleaner has other built tools that make it easy to repair slow or infected PCs.

Unlike some other cleaners, which can be brutal, it doesn't cause any damage especially in the hands of inexperienced users.

Forgot to mention that there have been several problem versions over the years but as I don't need updated versions or I am installing the programme on other people's machines, I can choose the version to be installed. If you need to know the problem versions, Wikipedia is probably the place to go -
