We were somewhere around Barstow, on the edge of the desert, when the drugs began to take hold. I remember "The Medway Handyman" saying something like:
Oh, I think it's a load of old bollocks meself, but I've seen it apparently working. Now whether that's subconscious recognition of likely water-bearing structures, or simple con tricks, I don't know.
IMO there are two kinds of 'fake' be they mediums, clairvoyants, faith healers, tarot card readers, dowsers etc. Those who have deluded themselves into believing that have these abilities and those who cynically exploit people by pretending they have these abilities. The former are simply deluded, the latter are scum.
