Go to a timber merchant and ask for B Grade if you want an unblemished face that can be varnished. BB has some repairs, CP rather more and C sounds like the stuff you found in B&Q.

Quality is getting worse. Even baltic birch which use to be top notch stuff sometimes has voids now. Go to a place that specialises in sheet goods and explain what you want and they should be able to help you.
Most of the stuff in the sheds is s**te these days.
A couple of years ago I bought a large piece of ~1" thick plywood fro BQ for various projects. It was good quality stuff. Went to get some more last week and honestly, the quality was visibly much poorer. Many knots in it and poor grain (coarse) and the edges were splintered and poorly finished. Is this just a bad batch d'ya think or yet more cheapening of products. If so any suggestions where quality plywood may be obtained?
Plywood is sold by grade such as a/b or b/c would be one good face and one less good face for rear. The grading relates to knots, and repairs.
My local supplier now lists them all using Finnish grades 11/111
Good explanation of grades & terms here :

The boat builders I know that use ply are all complaining too.
It really matters on a varnished deck.
