Pifco Christmas Tree lights.,

I am using a 40 light push in set.(6 volts, 0.75/0.7 Watts) A number of bulbs have failed but the rest remain lit. Local shops, Garden centres do not stock them, Where can I purchase them? Any ideas please, ( I have spare sets of lights but we like these) Peter.

I find it hilarious that a set of 280 lights with transformer costs £3 and 3 bulbs for the same costs £1

We have all but dumped all "bulb" species of lights in favour of LED strings. At least there will be no more "hunt the bulb" fun and games and the lights shine oh so brightly without getting warm.

Not that that helps your quest, but prices do drop by at least 50% round about now if you venture to the garden centres.

But that's part of the Christmas tradition!

Bought some spares from Wilkinsons for both 20 bulb set and 40 bulb set. It would have been cheaper to but a new set.

and a part I can survive without. :¬)

Quite. I popped into my local hardware shop to buy the traditional pack of 4 spare bulbs for 99p. Got them home and found they wouldn't fit. Some ****er has changed the base design.

Sod it, I'll get a set of LED lights next year, and run down one set of the current bulbs as spares for the other until all 80 have gone.

Where do you buy the LEDs?

Are there versions suitable for outdoor use? Are they low voltage run in parallel, higher in series, or ??

Are there white ones only or only tack multiple colours.?

I've lost five of the LEDs in one set this year and guess what, they're not replaceable so it's a chuck away job when they die, I'd rather play hunt the bulb.

Woolies have a big selection of spare bulbs.

If mains lights are run on a plug in dimmer they should last a long long while.

A quick 'n' dirty way of dimming them would be to put a diode in series.

cheers, Pete.

Garden centers, Homebase, Most DIY sheds. Price starts high then drops about a week or 2 before Xmas, but when the price drops (usually by about 50%) they go really quickly (except for the vommit colour ones) :¬)

Yes.

Are they low voltage run

Dunno.

We have some "brilliant" white colour ones which are really bright.

the last ones we bought are alternate blue and white. the blue is very piercing... I love that LED blue colour.

Last year I saw ones that could be interconnected with up to 4 (I think) runs connected end to end by weather proof plug.

Only the tack colours left though so we didn'y bother with them.

:-)

Thanks for that. We're going shopping today - I hate it but it's more than a month since the last time and the pantry shelves have spaces on them :-(

You have shattered my illusions Mary. I thought you were 100% self sufficient living on stores of nuts, berries and preserves through the winter months.

Sorry - don't know where you got that impression :-)

Man cannot live on berries and preserves alone ... :-(

I am still 'hunting the spare bulbs' after a visit to Wilkinsons and Wollies. . Not the type I was after. Peter.

He's just gone out to find some, I couldn't possibly know what to look for :-)

And he's taking an eleven year old grandson to share the joy!

Blessed relief, alone for at least an hour (with all the other errands on his list).
