Is it on a domestic hot water circulating system, or is it on the boiler's water circuit. If it's a DHWS circulating pump, you'd need a replacement pump with bronze innards.
The noise might be cavitation, caused by low pressure at the pump inlet and high water temperatures. Unless you've increased the water temperature, there's no rteason why this would start suddenly, so after 14 years failing bearings are likely, as Andy said.

I am presuming it is on the DHWS as it only seems to happen when I heat the water, not turn on the central heating. That said, it seems a bit strange to me that it is there - is there a reason it would be on the DHWS (I ask because when I turn the immersion heater to heat the water the pump is not in use and I thought that DHWS was gravity fed).
I don't think I've increased the temperature, but I did drain the central heating. If I turn the temperature down would the prevent/eliminate this as a cause?
