Log lathe

All the ones I've ever looked at with anything inside were two halves glued together. A router for the hole up the middle is then easy, another run gives you a sail track. If you have a hollow mast look for a join running up the front.

I saw one once where the glue failed. The halves went neatly over the two sides of the boat!

It feels too heavy to be properly hollow like an old wooden dinghy mast. No sail track - this is an old-fashioned gaff rig with wooden mast hoops. Like I say, I can't swear there's no join anywhere, but there certainly isn't one up the front - I was looking along there the other day to check for straightness and also examining the varnish in a small area across the front.
