Landline call provider

I am leaving my current internet provider, therefor am losing my landline anytime call option. Who is the best value in price and service to provide me anytime calls in future please?

It depends very much on your call pattern, but BT and 18185 works well for me. My mobile PAYG on 3 is also competitive.

Do you need anytime for just national calls?

Do you make lots of calls to Mobile or International numbers?

I'm trying to work out why changing ISP affects landline call packages. Unless on a Virgin or possibly an LLU line.

You need to look carefully at your landline calls pattern. For example BT offer one with a maximum number of minutes per month. Which might suit better than the so called free ones that charge heavily if you go over an hour on one call, or whatever.

I am leaving Plusnet because they have discontinued the Chat option, which makes it difficult for me to communicate with them. The ISP of my choice does not offer phone call packages.

Most packages these days are broadband and landline combined. You can still take BB and landline separately, but those are becoming increasingly relegated to a hidden corner of the provider's website.

To the OP: it might be worth considering VOIP. Cheap calls, and no need for 'subscriptions' or 'packages'. For example, if you don't call a lot 1p/min could work out cheaper than 10 pounds a month for 'unlimited' calls.

Plusnet charge £8 per month on top of line rental, inc unlimited fibre broadband, for the UK anytime. I took up their £7pm offer of free unlimited anytime calls + texts, sim only so I knocked the lanline free calls on the head. I agreed a very special deal to stay with them, for the landline rental, so my mobile + landline fibre are now sub £30.

Service is always top notch and UK (well Yorkshire) support if needed.

Yres, and to be fair to Virgin the anytime call package is reasonable, its the broadband to existing customers vs the new customer rate that pisses me off, if they just did not offer as big a discount and gave a bit more back to the people who are loyal it would improve their brownie points no end.

More importantly what is your overall usage profile. The question is otherwise "How long is a piece of string?"

Because you can get a bundled deal if you put your landline rental, phone and internet service and mobile phone all with the same provider. Typically you get extra data or minutes on the mobile contract.

Choosing the optimum contract combo is actually quite a challenge - you should slightly overrun contract minutes every now and then. Most people have too many contract minutes and an infinite number of texts allowed.

If you split everything up you have three bills for landline rental to BT, internet & phone to ISP and a mobile bill and pay more for less.

Just done this with BT and had my monthly bill reduced dramatically. Without the faff and uncertainty of changing supplier, as I'm very happy with BT otherwise.

Exactly the same with gas and electric suppliers, a single supplier is cheaper than separate and easier for the customer to manage.

Have a look at IDNet - Decent ISP who do broadband and phone packages - small enough company you can normally get through on the phone quickly, talk to the same people each time, and they will answer tech stuff by email.
