Install memory in Dell Latitude E5500 w/o angle grinder

Anyone done one? The service manual covers the E5400 as well, and only shows the procedure for that model. That one is bog standard - remove 5 screws and the cover comes off. The E5500 has one central screw and, in my case, part of the left side of the cover is sticking up but the cover won't move. I'm starting to wonder if there are other retaining screws accessed from under the keyboard - not that I can see any pressure points to spring the keyboard out. Similarly, there's no obvious recesses round the cover edge for inserting a small screwdriver to spring it out.

I'll carry on experimenting, but I need it for Monday and don't want to turn up at the place I'm working with a laptop held together with tape!

Sorry ignore this - don't know how I missed it before, but a small flatblade in the short edge towards the back slides it down. Only took an hour! In message , Nick writes

Does sliding the cover towards the front of the computer work?

Sounds similar to my E6500, remove the screw, then the bottom slides off towards the front, might need a little downward pressure ... maybe more if it's been bent

That's the way. I think I had tried that direction, but with not enough oomph. Thanks to you and John. John's hyper link folder hierarchy refers to it a late model 5400, even though the page is for a 5500 - maybe why I didn't find it.

Do you think these are all ex stealth fighter designers who lost eheir jobsand designed this on the rebound, or just bloody minded 'my IQ is the size of a planet' types?
