They found the cable the mouse had gnawed through, I imagine. Brian

Avast is a real pain. The latest version of their self protection system stops screenreaders working on that program, so you then have to get a sighted person to go in and turn it off. I sometimes wonde if these things ever get tested. Brian

The answer of course is to have one of the freeby servers set up as well, so you can see if its a general issue, orjust your news providor. Brian

I have found them very good up until this issue. The main problem was most of the help line staff knew nothing about news groups. For 16 days they denied they had a problem even suggesting I couldn't possibly have ever had access via them as I wasn't paying extra for it!

This is the point. Most ISPs are ok until something needs fixing. Luckily I've not needed any help from BT yet in a couple of years - unlike Pipex/TalkTalk where something went wrong twice a year or so. And on every occasion it was a fault 'at the exchange'.

IP address? Yikes. Don't like that in my headers.

Another vote for "Nine Inch Nails" usenet.

You can't hide your IP address. You can go via a site that claims to hide your IP address but they know your IP address. You can use TOR which tries to hide you end points but I wouldn't like to guaranty it really hides your IP address, the entry point still knows it. It really depends on how much someone wants to know your IP address and what they are prepared to do.

Maybe you should try using twitter with a burn phone instead?

But intermediaries can.

But may choose to 'forget' it.

Which one? With TOR there are hundreds..

Or something.

In the context of usenet you can avoid it being publicly on show. Check my headers.

The authorities are very welcome to to knowledge of my IP address, name, street address, birth planet, shoe size and extra leg measurements. Random aliens with a grudge. No.
