Grommet source

I have some aluminium tubing, with an 8.5mm hole into which was fitted a rubber grommet. Unfortunately the grommet used is the 'standard' type that suits up to

1.7mm panel thickness ... the tube is thicker .. probably 12g (may even be 10g)

So need a grommet to suit thicker panel .... anybody know of a source ?

Found one supplier but min oder fo £30 .... I only need 1 grommet.

Tried eBay ... all seem to be teh 1.6mm thick type.

Did any one else read the subject as "Gourmet sauce"?

NB what you or I would call a grommet they call a bushing.

Phone up and ask for a sample or two. Almost any company dealing in small parts like this will send out free samples.

Some electricsl wholesalers sell "grommet strip" that used to be suitable for thicker metal. It is a strip of U shaped plastic, cut off as neccesary to fit holes of any size.

Or make your own out of a bit of silcon sealant.

Or you can make it yourself from a length of T&E outer sheath, if you strip it off by running a knife down against the earth (like what you're not supposed to do;-).

Choose size of T&E to fit the application.

Would that be the aptly named Grommets Ltd? You could try phoning them and asking if they know anybody who sells the size you want. They have always been very helpful with enquiries I have had in the past.

Yep used that, and fine for larger holes ... but this existing 8.5mm hole is too small.

Might have to resort to silicone.

done that before now ... problem is t&e not that good on small diam ... great if it was a 25mm hole. I'll have a look at some single core cable ... see if that would work
