floor tiling advice

My bathroom is a typical 1970s ground floor add on 'grant' extension, concrete floor with vinyl tiles & as this got worn, lino over the top of that. Problem is that all the water in the atmosphere seems to condense below the lino and just sits there, eventually rots away any timber it comes into contact with. I thought about chucking out the lino and tiling the floor in ceramic tiles, but can I stick those on top of the vinyl tiles?

Nope. it will end in tears. Lift the vinyl tiles which may well be stuck with a bitumen based adhesive which will all have to come off so the ceramic tile adhesive will stick. You might be best off chipping the floor surface all over with a bolster and then using a thick bed adhesive. Find a local professional tile specialist who will have details of the correct adhesive for your application. Be prepared for levelling compound, adhesive and grout to cost about the same as the tiles or maybe even more!

Good Luck
