Fitting new water main - maintaining damp-proofing?

Hi all

I will shortly need to dig a hole in the (solid) kitchen floor in order to install a new water main, and have concerns about maintaining the integrity of any damp-proofing. I have no idea what I'm going to find when I get through the concrete layer; but if I come up against a layer of polythene, how would you normally 'repair' this after going through it, and what do you do at the point where the water pipe comes through?

Alternatively, as this is quite an old property, if I don't find any membrane, can I assume there are any other measures in place to prevent rising damp? Doesn't appear to be damp currently as far as I can see. What should I do when backfilling and reconcreting to prevent any future problems?

Thanks David
