Exactly what I thought hence the original Q ... 16 - 18" fan running much slower would be so much better.

I would but logical place for it ... SWMBO has a 3 bulb glass light fitting ...
I live in S.Wales and year on year we are getting very hot summers Didn't say day is too hot, just that at night with heat upstairs it's uncomfortable hot (separate thread on this)
Sell her an upgrade. One of my ceiling fans has a 5 light fitting.
Even the most dismal summers seem to have a handful of "too hot" nights.
If a fan meant having a bare bulb I'd still go for it. Swmbo will pipe down as soon as she feels the coolth.
