Exactly what I thought hence the original Q ... 16 - 18" fan running much slower would be so much better.

I live in S.Wales and year on year we are getting very hot summers Didn't say day is too hot, just that at night with heat upstairs it's uncomfortable hot (separate thread on this)

If a fan meant having a bare bulb I'd still go for it. Swmbo will pipe down as soon as she feels the coolth.

Big ones yes, small ones that you could fit into something a pensioner could easily move around the room, no.
